Jim Munro, founder of Munro’s Books, is retiring after 50 years in the book business. Munro’s Books celebrated 50 years as well in September 2013, and we’re happy to note the much-loved bookstore will live on. The Globe and Mail reports “the successors will be store manager Jessica Walker, senior buyer Carol Mentha, comptroller Sarah Frye and operations manager Ian Cochran.” Congratulations to Jim on his retirement, and here’s to the next 50!
Wow—2013 and 2014 were monumental years for several of the province’s much-loved bookstores.
Black Bond Books in the Lower Mainland and Munro’s Books in Victoria both celebrated 50 years last year (2013), Laughing Oyster Book Shop in Courtenay celebrates 40 years this year (2014), and Ivy’s Bookshop in Oak Bay is celebrating 50 big ones this year (2014).
Congratulations to these wonderful independent bookstores!
